Thanks to Marcel's reminding, I noticed some relation between Mahler and Dante's (¦ý¤B)¯«¦±
The 135 portraits inside was made by Gustave Dore, a French.
The book that Mahler discussed "life and death" with his daughters was exactly ¯«¦±. Ken Russell even showed one picture with many angels, which is the ¤Ñ°ó½gNo. 132 picture named"¨ì¹F¤ô´¹¤Ñ" -- Glory to the Holy Father, the Holy Son, and the Holy Spirit.
The other picture Ken Russell used seemed to be ¦aº»½gNo. 48 ¨º¥Ë¤Hªº°k¤`( I didn't see it very clear.). The story described how the father of the ¨º¥Ë¤H was a ®ö¿º¤l. He was sent to be a servant of some noble man. Later he served a king but committed the sin of bride. Thus he was sent to hell to suffer and chased and tortured by evil ghost if he reached his body out of the water.
We can imagine that Ken Russell might want to refer Mahler's life as the ¨º¥Ë¤H, suffered because of his desire to success.
