Course description:
An introductory
course on political and economic issues relevant to developing or “third world’
countries. We will discuss why some countries are less developed,
what problems they are facing and what policies could be used to deal with
these problems. We will also touch on various development issues in Taiwan.

VIII. Grading:
1.
Course participation (10%): Students
are expected to read carefully prior the class, to attend each class and to
class discussion.
2.
Question raising and discussion (30%):
Each student is required to choose a topic, from Week 3 to Week 15, and pose,
at least one, analytical questions before each class, which should
reveal her/his understanding of the readings and be closely related to the
class topic. Each topic will accommodate at most 7 students who will sign up at
the start of the semester. The question(s) will be graded according to its
relevance to the readings/topics, thoroughness in scope and clearness in explanations.
3. Responses to questions (20%): The student who raises the question(s) has to submit responses/answers to her/his own questions, according to discussions in the class, before the next class.
4.
Final
exam (40%)。
