INTERNATIONAL POLITICAL ECONOMY OF EAST ASIA:

A Multicultural Perspective

International Conference
Graduate Institute of Southeast Asian Studies, Tamkang University
Taipei, TAIWAN
March 8, 2008

In an era of globalization, many important contemporary issues cannot adequately be addressed by recourse to economic, political, or sociological analysis alone. To explore or understand such crucial regions as the East Asia, it is also not enough to analyze actors and actions that take place on a particular level of analysis—individual, state, or international system. This conference is focusing on interdependence among states, peoples, and societies in East Asia, a region filled with differing and sometimes conflicting interests, points of view, or value systems. With increasing interactions of goods, peoples, and knowledge within and outside the region, social and cultural environments must also be considered along with economic and political analyses. Therefore, we welcome proposals for sessions, panel discussions and individual papers on international political economy of the East Asian region, especially from the multicultural perspective.

We welcome proposals from various disciplines. We are especially interested in topics such as (but not limited to) the following:

1. International migration and multicultural societies

2. Multicultural education

3. East-West cultural comparisons

4. Cultural diversity and political development

5. Multicultural economic and technical cooperation

6. Development of civilization and multicultural media and arts

7. Cultural identity of ethnics and societies

8. Cultural diversity and sustainable development

Please send your proposal, preferably by e-mail to the program coordinator. Make sure that you include complete contact information (address, phone number and email).
